The whole of life is a choice. I've been challenged to the nth to create what you're seeing here, but en route I've found more meaning, love and community than I ever could have imagined.

It's amazing how, once we're out there, we're so quickly reconnected with our essence. Our hearts sing, our minds expand, and we're in the flow. Life is good.

The road LEAST travelled is difficult to navigate—at least to begin with—but it's infinitely more satisfying.

Hiking or running trails is a primal need. We're irresistibly drawn to step into the infinity of our great outdoors.

Once out there, we're challenged to go further, feel deeper, and, just maybe, discover nirvana.

But summiting isn't just about standing on the peak and being mesmerised by the view; it's about celebrating the person we become in the process.

Mountains and their cruxes introduce us to our limits, but they also provide us with an unprecedented opportunity to unshackle ourselves from them—and to reach for our dreams.

Saffas crave playing in the great outdoors, and, yes, we love our Game Reserves too. So when we're on holiday, we're loaded to the hilt with everything that we'll need to play, ride, climb, hike, surf, paddle, explore—and chill.

Way back when, bicycles were a ridiculously uncomfortable means of transport.

They're more comfortable now, and easier to ride. What's more, an amazing array of two-wheeled disciplines has emerged alongside the commuting bikes. They marinade you in so much comfort and capability, and connect you with people and planet in such an unexpectedly delightful way, that, once experienced, you must ride forever.

As I write, we're in the middle of the Tour De France. It's the biggest cycling event on the Planet—and definitely the most famous. It's all about resilience, grit and speed. Millions of cycling fans all over the world are caught up in its frenzy.

When you're out there on a road bike, whether alone, with a bunch of mates, or in an event peloton, you can't help testing yourself. It's a given that you'll want to ride faster than you did last time—and definitely faster than everybody else!

African skies are different; they just are. And when you're on an Adventure Bike for days, even weeks, on end, they're very raw, real and magnificent.

Having spent forty years, on and off, riding Africa's back-roads on an Adventure Bike, I understand its allure. When that bike is parked in the garage—even when it's not being used—you can dream about the next great adventure under African skies.

Whether we're walking, running, riding, hiking, or stretching, the moments we carve out to spend moving time, together, shape our connections.

The quality of our lives is a consequence of the special people who walk furthest beside us.

Group sports such as pickleball reunite us with the communities of which we are all a part, and which elevate our wellbeing. For a few sweet moments we can indulge the laughter and camaraderie which so uplifts and energises us.

We're reminded of just how good it is to be alive, and each time our lives are changed forever. We go back into the same world, but through a brighter door.

When we're passionate about a purpose-driven outcome, we're better able to learn from setbacks and feedback, and to refine our craft through deliberate, stretching practice and the challenge of discipline.

The reward; we feel deeply satisfied, our mastery shines, and we surprise the world.

Butterflies can be so colourful, and dance so beautifully. It's in their genes.

Our future will be as colourful and dynamic as the choices we make. We're destined to the life we choose.

But there's no need for adventures to be huge.

Instead of spending our lives preparing to live, one day, it makes much more sense to be intrepid; to commit to stretching ourselves, daily. We need to use every last drop of who we are and what we stand for, to live brave and make a difference out there.

At the end of every purpose-driven day, we fall asleep with full hearts and restful souls.

Cape Horn is synonymous with freedom, adventure, and, yes, unprecedented challenges.

If we're brave enough to heed life's whisper—to lose sight of the shore and risk experiencing the joy of being truly alive—then a meaningful future awaits us.

After more than fifty years of it, my passion for paddling, how it fills my soul, brings out the competitor in me—and catalyses unlikely connections—still catches me by surprise.

Just this morning, as I write, I met a madly competitive rower on the dam. Paddlers don't normally talk to rowers, but today Ernie and I connected. Ernie is the Hilton College Rowing Coach.

He rowed, I paddled, and then we compared notes. Kindred spirits, we realised!

Our sports might be different, but we quickly discovered just how much common ground there is. He even confessed to having fallen out—which we do a lot—at the National Rowing Champs (grin).

Finally, we exchanged numbers and celebrated the morning's cards we'd been dealt.

Golf is a crazy game. Competitors and their adoring fans have had to learn to embrace the euphoric highs of a hole-in-one, which is sometimes followed just minutes later by the near inconsolable lows of a bunker extraction failure, or a triple bogey.

It's often a day-long roller-coaster ride which perfectly mirrors our lives. Our days are never plain sailing, and the tough moments always pass.
